The Marriage Trees

Oil on canvas panel
12 x 9 inches

This is the backyard of one of my clients who just recently got married. I painted this for them as a wedding gift because to me these trees look like they are embracing and growing entwined.

Here is a self-portrait I did last week. I finally got a picture of it without too much glare.

Mr Muscles

24in x 18in
Graphite on paper

I decided I needed to work on learning to see and draw muscles. I found this guy on one of the life drawing websites and decided to give it a try.  It was an interesting exercise and I learned a lot, but I found that this sort of detailed rendering was a bit tedious.

Nude Study

Oil on canvas board
8 x 10 inches

I am taking a life drawing class and I have been practicing at home using the website artists.pixelovely.com. This was a photo by Lee.  It's a great resource of poses to work from.  After doing a bunch of drawings I was really itching to try my hand at painting one of them. I think it turned out pretty good.

I am taking life drawing lessons and here is one I did that I like.
Took forever to get it right. Or at least right enough.

Pretty Bird

Mixed Media
on wooden end table

My grandfather made a set of these wooden tables many, many years ago.  They had gotten to be in such bad condition (peeling veneer and major stains) that we were going to throw them out.  But they were solid wood and so very sturdy, I decided I had nothing to lose if I tried painting and collaging them.  I love how they turned out.  This is the first one. The second one is soon to follow.

Coming Together

Oil on canvas board

This is the back yard of one of my clients. I get there early in the morning when the sun makes beautiful paths.  I love these trees that from this angle look like they are embracing.

I have joined the Daily Paintworks and all of my paintings can be purchased on that website. Here is the link for this painting. http://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/410187

Collage and Watercolor

I just took a painting in watercolor and collage class. It was so much fun and it really opened by eyes to all that can be done with collage and paint. Now of course, I have to buy lots of new art supplies. What fun! I haven't stopped doing them since I got home. Here is one I did that I really like.  I expect there will be more to come.

Yin Yang

16 x 12
Oil on canvas board

I went to an art party at my friend Becky's house. All who wanted to participate brought a piece of art, music, poetry or other writing on the theme of yin yang.  This is the first time I painted something based on a concept instead of some visual stimulation.  It was a very different but exciting experience. I looked to a lot of other artists for inspiration and decided Paul Klee was perfect. You can see a lot of him in this painting.
