I have exciting news. I am in a show at Scooters in South Austin. I am showing with two beautiful artists Suzanne Stewart and Deborah Thomas. If you have a chance to check out the show, it is up until Oct. 30th, I promise you won't be disappointed.

I have no painting to post. I have been busy learning how to use Illustrator and having a blast. I have been "painting" cute little cartoony objects and landscapes and never once had to wash a brush, scrape a palette, or scrub under my fingernails. But I must admit I miss real painting and am planning on getting back to it very soon.

Good Morning
Oil on Canvas
12 x 12

My morning routine. A cup of coffee and the NY Times crossword.
Usually an apple and hardly ever a flower. I added that for fun.

Lost Pot
Oil on linen on panel
6 x 6

I was really trying to lose the edges of the copper pot into the background and still give a sense of form. I love the mystery of lost edges but it is so hard to do. I have to constantly "be still" my hand while it tries to record every detail.

"You Lookin' At Me"
Oil on linen on panel
8 x 6
SOLD

Sorry about the glare on yesterday's painting. I used the exact same technique to photograph this one as I did yesterday. I don't know why one had glare and the other one didn't. I am still learning about this photographing of art work.

Austin House
Oil on linen on panel
6 x 6
SOLD

My neighbors are moving to Oklahoma and as a going away gift
I painted their house. They probably would have preferred a
real paint job. But I hope they like this little painting.

Getting Warmerer
Oil on linen on panel
8 x 10

I promise this is the last time I will post this painting. But I think I got it right now. The flower
stopped screaming.

Getting Warmer Again
Oil on linen on panel
9 x 12

I decided to work on this on some more. I was unhappy with the flower on the left. It was too bright and it was calling to much attention to itself. It thought it was the subject of the painting and not the pot with flowers. It 's still a bit loud but better.

A familiar sight in Austin. The My Cupcake trailer.

Granny Smith
Oil on linen on panel
9 x 12

Here is another limited palette painting. This time I used sap green, alizarin crimson and white. Ooops, I lied, I also used a little cadmium yellow pale. One of my followers commented that painting is like playing music. It's all in getting the intervals right. Be it notes or colors.
Limiting the palette sure helps to keep those color notes harmonious.

Cracked
Oil on linen on panel
9 x 12

I've been doing a number of paintings using a limited palette. It really makes me focus on the value structure and the warm and cool within those values. It's been a great exercise.
I only used 3 colors for this one blue, orange and white.

Getting Warmer
Oil on linen on panel
8 x 10

My sister-in-law lent me this pot. Thanks Jennifer.
I just love the warm glow on the pot and flowers contrasted with the cool light on the single flower.

Enchanted Brew

Oil on linen on panel
9 x 12

Lately I have been admiring paintings that use high contrast. I love the drama and the mystery.
This one feels a bit surreal, dreamy. I think I'll be doing some more of these.

Pair of Pears
Oil on linen on panel
6 x 8

SOLD

I really need to get a better handle on how to photograph my art for this blog. This one has some glare in the upper right hand corner. And I can never get the color exactly right. Does anyone have any suggestions. Probably, I need to take a digital photography class.

Tea for One
Oil on linen on panel

I haven't posted for a over a week because I haven't been happy with any of the work. Today I decided to go ahead and put up this one.

Tea Party
Oil on Linen on panel
6 x 6

I almost didn't name this one Tea Party because of the political
movement. So, please don't think there is any connection. It just seemed
such a good name for this happy tea set.

Fiesta
Oil on linen on panel
6 x 6

I just love Fiesta ware. The colors are so rich. And this painting
seemed so happy and festive to me. This is the last in the crab
apple series. They lasted a long time, but their time had come.

Apple Pie

My sister-in-law suggested I take these apples and make
a "bubbly juicy pie". So this one is dedicated to Jennifer.

Cuddles
Oil on linen on panel
6 x 6

I named this one "Cuddles" because it feels like the crab apples
are all snugly and cuddling with one another. I just love the
colors in this one. I think I'll rearrange the objects and paint
them again tomorrow.

Line-Up
Oil on linen on panel

This is one of four paintings I did of the these tangerines.
After the fourth one I could no longer resist eating them
and so they are gone. I moved on to crab apples. (tomorrow's
post). No temptation there.

Start of a Peachy Day
Oil on Linen on Panel
6 x 6
Sold

As I was painting this I kept thinking the colors were wrong. But I just kept on, resisting the urge to correct until I had filled in the whole canvas. I was so pleased to discover that the colors worked once they were all in place.

Peach on Red
Oil on linen
6 x 6 (sort of)

This one started out on a 6 x 6 piece of linen. I really liked it and tried to mount it on a panel and realized it was not square but a parallelogram. I tried to trim it square but only managed to make it smaller not squarer. Oh well, it is a lesson learned.
